April in your garden
Here's a quick guide to the jobs you should be doing in your garden during April :- Plant summer flowering bulbs - this usually starts early in March
- Plant potatoes - again start in early March
- Begin dividing herbaceous plants
- Plant evergreen plants & hedging
- Continue making compost - should have begun this practice in early March
- Continue cutting lawns - begin this in early March
- Plant up hanging baskets - these containers are already appearing on the pedestrian streets around Dublin
- Continue sowing annual flower seeds - this was begun in early February
- Continue sowing annual herb seeds - following on from early Feb
- Begin to clear & maintain ponds
- Plant marginal & pond plants

Today's weather in Dublin was very windy with frequent blustery showers. But the lousy weather was offset by the sight of so many lovely plants all profusely breaking into bud. Most garden plants have been 'breaking into leaf bud' over the past 6 to 8 weeks. Its only now that the whole event seems to be occurring simultaneously...
