In Memory of Liz Cowap
The 1st anniversary of my good friend Liz Cowap is this Friday 20th April. It's difficult to believe she is no longer with us. But as the Chinese poet Han-Shan says 'I drink, while I may, the wine that lies in my cup, and all else commit to Heaven's care.' Lines from Thinking of The Past (AD 833).What can I or anyone say in memory of Liz? Well maybe soothing poetry is most appropriate in times like these. Especially as poetry is the most concise and accurate means of conveying emotion and praise and a great many other sentiments.
I will close with a beautiful poem again by Han-Shan entitled:
At The End of Spring
If the Fleeting World is but a long dream,
It does not matter whether one is young or old.
But ever since the day that my friend left my side
and has lived an exile in the City of Chiang-ling,
There is one wish I cannot quite destroy:
That from time to time we may chance to meet again.
(AD 810)
Future posts will contain more of Han-Shan's gardening poems...
