- Continue planting greenhouse-grown frost-tender vegetables outside
- Transplant leek & brassica seedlings
- Harvest lettuce, calabrese, rocket, radishes, spring onions, gooseberries, early potatoes, overwintering onions, & the last of the asparagus
Asparagus should ideally be harvested before the middle of June. This month is also the last chance to plant peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, melons & aubergines in the greenhouse or in tubs on the patio.
Also try to keep on top of hoeing weeds in the vegetable garden. At the beginning of June it would have been safe to plant cold-sensitive herbs such as basil outside.
Herbs make practical as well as ornamental container plants. Make an edible container using a mixture of herbs, lettuce 'Red Salad Bowl' & edible flowers such as heartsease or borage.
