GREAT DIXTER
Gardens Illustrated is one of my two favourite gardening magazines. The other gardening magazine which I enjoy reading is BBC Gardeners' World. The other day I purchased the July issue of Gardens Illustrated at Eason's book shop in O' Connell Street, Dublin. What caught my attention was the cover feature - an article which explores Great Dixter, Christopher Lloyd's famous garden, located in Northiam, Rye, East Sussex. In a few weeks time I will be visiting this garden in England. For more details log onto www.greatdixter.co.ukChristopher Lloyd passed away in January 2006 and he is greatly missed by many people in the gardening world. For many years he wrote a regular gardening column in the The Guardian newspaper and throughout his life he wrote numerous books about various aspects of gardening. My very good, late friend Liz Cowap visited Christopher Lloyd's garden; I remember her advising me to arrive early as the queues of eager visitors meant a long wait. It's a great pity that Liz and Christopher Lloyd are no longer with us. I would have enjoyed meeting 'Christo' in the company of Liz.
As I said I am really looking forward to visiting this magnificent garden and what better time to do this than during the summer - obviously I'm hoping for an improvement in the weather! Anyway I'll be taking loads of pictures and you can view them on Flickr and Picasa2. So watch this blog!
Some additional information: the head gardener is Fergus Garrett; the assistant head gardener is Matthew Reese. While the nursery manager is Kathleen Leighton who has worked at the Great Dixter nursery for the last 21 years.

Hi Thomas
Good blog - have been looking for other gardeners on the blogosphere and can't find that many. Have linked you to mine. Best wishes
Laurence
Thanks very much. With you on Gardens Illustrated. Hampton Court was good. Going to Dublin 18 - 22 July so let me know if there's something I should visit!
