Herbert Park Plant Pictures

Calystegia sepium (Hedge Bindweed); flowers April - July. Seen here peeping through the iron railing along the River Dodder which flows quite close to Herbert Park

The overgrown herbaceous border
Here are some interesting plant pictures taken in Herbert Park which is a 35 acre public park located on the south side of Dublin City. Dominic Madden is the head gardener & he keeps the park in fairly good shape. Although the herbaceous border could do with some major rejuvenation. The following pictures will show you why! The majority of the plants were never divided and as far as I can see have never received remedial pruning. So shame on you Herbert Park for not taking the effort to do some real gardening!
While I was inspecting the wild flowers which grow in abundance along the iron railing surrounding Herbert Park, I noticed that Galium aparine (Cleavers or Goosegrass); flowering June-August; was making fine progress along the many evergreen oaks that grow along the River Dodder side of the park.

Talk about a backhanded compliment.. I'm sure old Madden is delighted.
You should write a full scale artical on how the park is run...and if it is being run properly. Something that might give rise to a debate etc.
