A High Price

Today as I was browsing through the gardening section in
Eason's
book shop in O'Connell Street, Dublin, I found this new gardening book Homes and Gardens New Garden Book
. Yes, another new title in an already flooded gardening book market. This is a very large coffee-table type of book full of very elegant colour pictures. It is for this reason and the extremely expensive price of 65 Euro that I would not recommend it.

Believe me you will learn a lot more from books written by Alan Titchmarsh,
Monty Don; Bob Flowerdew and the late Geoff Hamilton. These four English gardeners are experts in their field. Yes they have written numerous books - a glance at their websites and you will be delighted to see their collective gardening wisdom is worth its weight in gold. If you are still hankering after another book on gardening then I would strongly recommend Learn to Garden published by the Royal Horticultural Society. This superb book is a complete introduction to gardening and is essentially an excellent book for both the beginner and expert alike.

Another garden designer and writer worth her weight in gold is Penelope Hobhouse. She is an associate editor of the international magazine Gardens Illustrated.

It was my dear friend
Liz Cowap who earlier this year gave me a gift of four pocket sized garden 'know-how' books written by Penelope Hobhouse. I an indebted to Liz for her exceeding generosity - she was a true friend. I will always remember Liz and her love of all things horticultural.
