Re-use & Recycle
For some time now I have been fascinated by the re-use / recycle campaigns which are being broadcast daily on RTE television.These ads employ the services of Diarmuid Gavin - the award winning Irish garden designer. In the advertisement he is seen giving advice to a housewife on the possible ways of reducing household rubbish which includes the food waste from the kitchen table.
My point is this. Do we need this method of environmental awareness when we are told almost daily that the environment 'has had it'? Afterall, the polluting nature of our post industrial western world has made any attempts to rectify or even mitigate the damage caused to the environment a fairly futile endeavour.
The damage has been done to our planet's ecosystem on a vast scale; wild flowers and the animal habitats they supported are disappearing daily. In my view its time to enjoy what forest and jungle remain because these natural habitats are disappearing atrociously fast.
